Callsigns held: W4NUC - K5AP - K4AW - KM4E - K4AW

After learning Morse code and other neat stuff from his
father, W4NPJ, Joe became a licensed ham, W4NUC, in
1948 while attending Plant High School in Tampa, Florida.

He then kept regular radio schedules with W4NPJ on 40 CW
while pursuing an EE degree at the University of Florida and
working at the University Broadcasting Station, WRUF.

Frequent ham radio contacts with W4NPJ continued for over
40 years while Joe operated at many locations in the U.S.,
the Arctic, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific.

In the early 70's they both were tested for and received new Extra Class
callsigns; W4NPJ became N4NP and Joe's new callsign was K4AW.

Their radio contacts ended in 1991 when N4NP became a Silent Key at the age of 87.
